BABYLONE WALLS T-SHIRT
“By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.”
The antique city of Babylon was known for its fertile soil and agriculture, its magnificient temples, walls and gates. The city was surrounded by impenetrable walls, and a great bridge spanned across the Euphrate river.
Today it may allude to the search for a lost homeland. The city is still filled with intriguing myths, the most famous being the Tower of Babel and the Hanging Gardens.
The isometric visual on the back illustrates the square layout of the city, representing its impervious and gigantic architecture. The squares and lines mirror a grid, some sort of network. Inside the cube we start reading LONE BABY as we go along the visual, exposing the seclusion of individuals inside such a stronghold.
The choice to use the French spelling of BABYLONE comes from the religious myth of the Tower of Babel: God made humans speak different languages, enabling a multiplicity of cultures. Language undeniably became a medium of cultural differences.
